Heading for a Victory
It is more than clear that in recent years football in Qatar has come into a new era. The importance of the Big Game and the forthcoming World Cup has revolutionised not only the infrastructure and the stadiums within the country but also the quality of football. The domestic league has become a more attractive place for the retirement of some ageing world-class players and not only. The national squad could be still a mystery but considering the home support, the chances of the team going to the next phase should not be underestimated.
Ecuador finished as the 4th best team in CONCACAF final ranking and thus, won a direct promotion to the World Cup. There are some young players within the squad worth mentioning – Piero Hincapie from Leverkusen, Pervis Estupinan and Moises Caicedo from Brighton. The legend of Ecuadorian football Ener Valencia is also called up.
It is difficult to predict the opening game of the tournament but we think that seeing more than a goal is very likely to happen.
